Dr. José Carbonell
Dr. José Carbonell is a psychiatrist with 31 years of professional experience, international training, and extensive experience in clinical and legal psychiatry.
After graduating from the University of Navarra's School of Medicine and completing a surgical residency at Harvard University in Boston, USA, Dr. Carbonell moved to London where he specialized in Psychiatry, becoming a member of the British Medical Association and the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He later furthered his training in England with a Master's degree in Research and Theory in Psychiatry from University College London.
During his early years, he worked in multiple London hospitals in areas as varied as Neurology in the Royal Air Force, Adult Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Emergency Psychiatry and Eating Disorders Units, in hospitals associated with University College London, where he also devoted part of his time to both the training of medical students and research.
After completing his training in London, he took over the private practice that his father, Dr. Jaime Carbonell, started in Palma in 1961. In this way, he developed the Instituto Carbonell, a center of reference in the treatment and prevention in the area of mental health, offering psychiatry and psychology services in a multidisciplinary environment.
During the period in which he developed the Carbonell Institute, he completed a Master's degree in Legal and Forensic Psychiatry at the Complutense University of Madrid, which led him to serve as President of the Spanish Society of Legal Psychiatry (2019-2023).
He is currently a member of various medical affiliations such as the Royal College of Psychiatrists in London and the British Medical Association (BMA).
